Cloud and backup basics for a growing business
Clarify who owns access, backups and recovery before your systems become harder to manage.
List the systems that matter
Record business applications, domains, hosting, devices, storage and the person responsible for each. This simple inventory makes renewal and access decisions easier.
Use individual accounts and strong access
Keep access assigned to named users, remove access when responsibilities change, and use multifactor authentication where available. Avoid shared passwords for administrative tools.
Define backup and recovery expectations
Decide which records must be recoverable, how often they should be backed up, who can restore them and how a restore will be tested. A backup that has never been restored may not meet the business need.
Review suppliers and handovers
Document account ownership, renewal dates, support contacts and data export options. Confirm that a supplier can explain the steps for service interruption or account recovery.
Revisit the plan when the business changes
New locations, staff, software and customer data can change the risk. Review access, retention and recovery responsibilities on a regular schedule.
